Dr. Surendra Ghaskadbi has been associated with the Developmental Biology group at the MACS–Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune-an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India-since 1985. His research interests span cell signalling during regeneration and pattern formation, evolution of developmental mechanisms, and stem cell biology. He has worked with a wide range of model systems, including chick, amphibian and snail embryos, sponges, hydra, and human mesenchymal and embryonic stem cells. Over the past two and a half decades, he has played a key role in reintroducing hydra as a model organism for teaching and research in India. Dr. Ghaskadbi has published extensively in reputed peer-reviewed journals and maintains strong national and international collaborations. He is actively involved in postgraduate teaching, has delivered numerous invited lectures, and is deeply engaged in science outreach across India. He serves as a Treasurer of the Maharashtra Association for the Cultivation of Science and is a past President of the Indian Society of Developmental Biologists and the Indian Society of Cell Biology. He is an Elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India, and the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences.
