Dr. R. Sankararamakrishnan is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of transport and selectivity in membrane protein channels and transporters, protein–protein interactions, and novel non-covalent interactions in biomolecules. He employs an interdisciplinary approach combining bioinformatics, molecular simulations, and quantum chemistry calculations. Dr. Sankararamakrishnan obtained his PhD from the Molecular Biophysics Unit at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Oxford, UK, and the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, USA. He also served as Assistant Professor (Research) at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, before joining IIT Kanpur in 2002. He is a recipient of the National Bioscience Award for Career Development from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, and has been awarded Endowed Chair Professorships at IIT Kanpur on three occasions. In recognition of his contributions to teaching, he received the IIT Kanpur Distinguished Teacher Award in 2023. He has published approximately 80 research papers in leading international journals.
