Prof. Praveen Kumar Vemula is Professor and Dean of Research at the Institute for Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine (BRIC-inStem), Bengaluru. He obtained his PhD from the Indian Institute of Science and pursued postdoctoral research at the City College of New York, followed by an Entrepreneurial Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation at Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on developing chemical technologies for medical applications, spanning chemical biology, biomaterials, drug discovery, drug delivery, and medical devices. Prof. Vemula has published nearly 100 peer-reviewed research articles, delivered over 300 invited national and international lectures including three TEDx talks, and holds more than 30 national and international patents, many of which have been licensed to biotech companies. Several technologies developed in his laboratory have translated into market-ready products, with over 25 products currently impacting millions of people globally. He has founded eight start-up companies based on his innovations. His contributions have been recognised with multiple honours, including the CRSI Bronze Medal (2025), ICT-RSC Innovation Award (2024), National Biotechnology Innovation Award (2023), DBT Product and Commercialization Award (2020), and the GYTI-SRISTI-BIRAC Award (2019).Â
