Prof. Javed Iqbal graduated from the University of Delhi and pursued postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge with Prof. Ian Fleming, FRS, followed by a research fellowship at the University of Oxford with Prof. J. E. Baldwin, FRS. He served as Professor at IIT Kanpur from 1984 to 1999 before moving to Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd., Hyderabad, where he held senior leadership roles including Distinguished Research Scientist, Global Head–Discovery Chemistry, and Director of the Dr Reddy’s Institute of Life Sciences (2000–2013). His research contributions span catalysis in organic synthesis, drug discovery, process chemistry, and natural product synthesis, with a major impact on therapeutics for diabetes, cancer, and infectious diseases. He has guided 30 PhD students, published over 200 research papers, and filed 90 patents across pharmaceuticals and API process development. Prof. Iqbal is the promoter of two startups – Cosmic Discoveries and Zephase Therapeutics – and has held visiting and adjunct academic positions across the USA, Europe, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand. He is a Fellow of Indian Science Academies and IUPAC, and has served on IUPAC committees on chemicals and drugs.
