Dr. Viswanathan Chinnusamy is an eminent plant physiologist and molecular biologist serving as Joint Director (Research) at the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. His research focuses on plant responses to abiotic stresses such as drought, salinity, heat, and cold, with the goal of developing climate-resilient crops through advanced genomics, biotechnology, phenomics, and genome-editing approaches. Over a distinguished career spanning more than two decades, he has made significant contributions to understanding stress signaling pathways and improving stress tolerance in crop plants. A Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), Dr. Chinnusamy has authored over 500 scientific publications and has received several prestigious honors, including the ICAR Jawaharlal Nehru Award, the DST BOYSCAST Fellowship, and the ISPP J.J. Chinoy Gold Medal. He continues to play a leading role in advancing agricultural research and innovation for sustainable food security.
